Work from Home Ideas pt1

Looking for ways to work from home?  Here are a few ideas that are successful; the amount of money varies from a few extra bucks a month, to enough to support a household.  There is something for everyone.

  1. Associated Content.  Ok let’s face it, you’re here reading this, so obviously you know how to find Associated Content, if your good at writing why not try your hand at submitting a few articles and see what you can get.  It is worth a shot at least, you may discover unknown writing talents that you never knew existed.
  2. MyLot, this is an online discussion board that is just an online community; however, it has a small twist.  You are paid to participate.  The amount you are paid depends upon the quality and quantity of your posts.  If you post 100 short one line responses to people’s posts your not likely to make much, however if you post fewer responses but with some serious meaningful answers your ability to earn some dough greatly increases.  This is not going to pay your monthly bills by any chance, however if your always online in the discussion boards anyways why not earn some extra cash in the process.
  3. AmeriPlan, this is a discounted health benefits company that helps people in two different ways.  They offer huge discounts off of the normal customary charges that medical providers typically charge so the product is relatively easy to sell; you are able to do a lot of the work from home around whatever schedule you choose to set for yourself.  I do this about 5 hours or so a week at this point since I have a full time job outside the house and love it.  Around the first of the year I plan to devote more time to it, this has the potential to actually replace a normal job in terms of money; however, it is not something that is going to happen overnight.
  4. Do you blog?  If so, why not sign up for a Google AdSense account?  Do not like Google, why not try Yahoo! Publisher Network.  Yahoo! Publisher Network is basically the same as the Google AdSense; however, it is just the same differences that exist between the search engines themselves.  If you happen to be rejected from one engine for, some reason, do not fret, simply apply with the other and later after your site gains popularity submit the site again.  Unless you drive massive amounts of traffic to your blog this is not likely to replace your normal income.  This however will provide a nice source of extra income.  If you do not have a blog, but have some other website that you do not mind sharing ad space with, it is also possible to have that site accepted into these programs.  The Google AdSense payout is at $100 minimum, the Yahoo! Publisher Network payout is not readily found on their website so I am unsure.
  5. Read emails to get paid.  If you do not mind having your email box flooded with loads of emails it is highly possible to find a few sites that are legit and do actually pay.  Bad part of this is that most emails only pay a couple of pennies at the most, with most actually taking 4-10 emails for each one cent accumulated.  This is definitely not a way to replace an income, however if you have enough time it’s possible to earn a few extra bucks a month from the various sites, this could cover a phone bill or something at the most.  Personally, I am not a huge fan of this idea; however, it is possible to have the ad timers for the emails ticking along while you browse through other emails, so it is not a complete waste of time.  Just a matter of personal preference.
  6. Constant Content is another site that purchases articles that are submitted.  While it is a bit different from Associated Content, it is similar.  The biggest difference I have noticed so far is that there you are able to set what prices you want your submissions to be sold for, whereas Associated Content just offers you a price and you have the option to accept or deny the offer.
  7. Be an affiliate through a place like Cajun Country Candies, or Telebay.  These companies are free to sign up with and will pay you a small percentage of all sales generated off the site they set up for you.  This has potential depending upon the company you go with to make a good stream of income, however it takes a lot of work and effort to really build this up and get that income stream flowing.
  8. Enjoy taking photos?  If so Shutterstock.com allows you to upload photos as long as they meet certain guidelines.  Each time your photo is downloaded, you earn .25, while this may not seem like a lot, if you spend some time uploading photo’s every so often it could provide a nice source of some additional play money.  A site like this could easily inspire someone to become more interested in a photography hobby.
  9. Amazon.com has an affiliate program.  If you love to online shop and have a blog, or other website sign up for an amazon.com account, this way you can place ads for their products on your site and earn a commission off of the sales that are made from your site.  Quick and simple to apply, this has several payout options including amazon.com gift certificates if you do a lot of online shopping that can be very helpful and beneficial.
  10. Avon/Mary Kay are always popular choices for those who aspire to be always beautiful and setting their own schedules.  This is another option that with some work can replace a full time jobs income.  This of course is not immediate, however it is possible.  I have seen and heard of many reps earning substantial incomes from this program.  I have tried Avon, however it did not work out well for me, I am not a major fan of make up and beauty regimes.  This makes it hard to sell beauty products when you cannot really give testimonials about the products that you are selling.  Others however have had great success with this.
  11. Enjoy selling extra stuff around the house that you no longer need?  Perhaps eBay or CraigsList is up your alley.  Some people manage to make some good money from these sites, I have never had much luck making money after paying the shipping, and various fees that eBay charges.  Nevertheless, I have seen others who make great sums off of a business venture like this.  There are even places that will list your items for you for a small commission off the final price.  If they can do that, why can’t you?  It is a great service to offer if your computer savvy and have the time to list the auctions for others.  Just beware, if the item is not paid for into an account that you pay the client from, you might be shafted on the eBay fees.
  12. Are you good at Flash, Java, HTML, or PHP?  If so perhaps you could start your own home based web site design business.  Websites are springing up everywhere, it is a fact that most businesses are either on the web, or looking to be on the web to expand their customer base.  With such a huge market, this is a rapidly growing field.  It is quite possible to make a lot of money at this.  It involves a good basic to advanced knowledge of the various programming languages; however, it is something that aside from the initial discussions with clients can be fit into a schedule that you choose.  You can work in the middle of the night, and spend the day lounging by the pool or out shopping.  A business like this has a great potential to make some good money.
  13. While we’re looking at the web based aspect of business, why not search for a good program where you get a commission off of web hosting products sold.  I have done this and made a good bit of money from it.  Not get rich quick money, but a bit of money has been made, I have recovered my yearly affiliate fee so far and made a bit of profit, plus receive a nice discount for myself and family off of the web hosting products from the company.  If you are interested in Idea 12, this would be a good add-on for the customers.  Web design and hosting all wrapped up into one neat little package means less trouble and stress for the business owners who you are trying to sway into your business.
  14. If you are incredible at computers and are able to fix almost any computer problem known to man, perhaps a computer repair business from your home is the solution you have been looking for.  This offers a lot of flexibility and potential to earn a good income.  Computers are an integral part of life for most people now; many people will happily pay someone who is able to quickly and swiftly fix their computer problems.
  15. If you are interested in the eBay idea, or if you have a small store where you can sell odds and ends, or if you do not mind having a yard sale every so often, go and search in your local paper for Storage Building Auctions.  I purchased one building in particular that I absolutely loved.  I paid almost $600 for the storage room; it was a 10 x 20 sized room that was full of stuff from furniture, clothes, electronics, appliances, anything, and everything for around the house.  Within a week after purchasing that building, I had already gathered up all of the personal items to return to the storage place for the previous owners to have back, plus sold the appliances to a tune of $1,000.  This left the furniture, clothes, electronics and jewelry plus all the rest to be sold.  After keeping some of the furniture, and a small portion of the clothes I turned around, gave some stuff to charities, and sold random other items in the paper using free classified ads my local newspaper offered.  I was still able to have a huge yard sale and cleared over $1,200 in profit from the yard sale.  All in all my sales from that one building was a bit over $3,000 for less than $600 initially invested.  Not a bad turnover at all from a business standpoint.  If you are a smart bidder, it is possible to make a lot of money at something like this, however do not forget to compare your time spent sorting the items, listing in papers etc.  I spent about a week disposing of all the stuff from the building so the $2400 approximate profit took about a week to achieve, which is not a bad pay rate for a weeks worth of work.

Some of these ideas are easier to accomplish than others.  However, it is always possible to find other ideas and sources of making money.  Your own personal desire to work from home will help determine how successful you are.  My personal feelings are to take several options and see what develops into the best financial resource.  Plus then you are not relying on just one source for all of your money.  Let’s face it your bills do not stop coming in just because you want to stay at home, they still must be paid.  However, being able to stay home does save some money, especially if you had a long commute or have kids in daycare.  By staying home, it is possible to cut the gas bill for the vehicles; save the wear and tear on the vehicle, as well as save daycare expenses because the kids are able to spend more quality time at home with a parent and enjoy the family time.  Food expenses are also saved because since your not having to eat out for much of your lunches it saves a lot of money there.  This means that often times less income is needed if you work from home than when you did work outside the home.  More shopping or less financial stress is actually readily possible to accomplish with the right amount of effort.
