Tip #1.  Shop early for your dress.  Many dresses have to be made, and are not able to be purchased off the rack, while this means that it will fit you perfectly, it also means that you will have to wait as long as six months before you can even be fitted for your dress!  You should ask when you look at the dresses how long the wait is.  While they will not be able to give an exact timeline, they should be able to give an approximation at the minimum. 

Tip #2.  Shoes will make or break you.  If you always live in tennis shoes then give at least a week to break in your heels for your wedding before the big day.  Otherwise, you will be limping down the isle in pain, or suffering badly through the reception.  Be very careful while breaking your shoes in that you do not stuff them, you want them broke in, not destroyed. 

Tip #3.  When you pick out your dress, find out what style of underwear you need.  Once you know what styles you need, go purchase the garments before the first dress fitting, on the day of the fitting make sure you have those garments so you can make sure the dress is fitted properly around that underwear.  This can make a big difference in the way your dress fits depending upon the garment. 

Tip #4.  Try to pick your bridesmaids dress from a store that has several locations, especially if your bridesmaids are all across the country.  This will make it much easier for everyone to have the same style, as well as be fitted and all in the same color.  If you are trying to arrange dress fittings around one store, with people having to fly in or drive in this can cause a huge financial burden, as well as potentially get the dresses backed up since one location is handling them all.  If all the bridesmaids are local, this is not such a problem, since they can be fitted at different times. 

As you can see with some planning, it is possible to look radiant and stunning on your wedding day without driving everyone nuts.  Dress fittings can be a hassle and enough trouble, but with some planning, it is possible to have the fittings go smoothly and without any problems at all.
