As we continue our journey into the world of Pocket PC software, we finally arrive at the final software format.  We have covered .exe as well as .cab in other articles as we are now onto .tsk.  I am going to walk you step by step through the installation process for a Pocket PC.

For the purpose of this explanation this is for the newest OS for the Pocket PC’s which is Windows Mobile 5.0, and I am assuming that to install the software you are using either a sync USB cable, OR a sync cradle which was included or purchased separately that is compatible with your PDA or Pocket PC.  Before you begin any installation, please make sure your PDA or Pocket PC is synced to your computer. 

Step 1.  Find the trial or software that you would like to purchase.  Click on the link to download the file, or purchase the program if it is a full version.

Step 2.  Once the Save As window opens, select a location where you can easily find the file once the download is complete.  Most people select either their My Documents folder or their Desktop so that the file is easy to find. 

Step 3.  The program will now appear on your computer, either in My Documents or on your Desktop; you should right click on the file and select Copy.

Step 4.  Now you need to open your Microsoft ActiveSync software and click on the Explore icon. 

Step 5.  Once the Explorer window is open, locate Mobile Device.  Once the Mobile Device opens, Double click on the My Pocket PC icon.

Step 6.  Once the My Pocket PC window opens, select the folder named Windows. 

Step 7.  Once the Windows folder has opened, you need to Paste the .tsk file into the folder.  After you paste the file, it will convert to the appropriate format. 

Step 8.  Once the files are all copied, you can view your Today screen by selecting Start….Settings…and then Today on your Pocket PC.  Click one of the files and click OK in the top right hand corner.  Then click Start…..Today to view your screen.
