Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights

I recently decided to take my children up to Rock City located just inside Georgia atop scenic Lookout Mountain the other day.  The event occurs from the middle of November through the first week of January.  The event features hundreds of thousands of lights all set up carefully to be in a great show and display of lights.

Rock City is a standard tourist attraction featuring typically overpriced admission and gorgeous views.  The rock paths are gorgeous and feature incredible views from the side of the mountain overlooking downtown Chattanooga.  From the Lovers Leap perch, it is possible to view seven states.

Admission is typically $14.95 for adults and $7.95 for children ages 3-12.  However, considering the size of my family I determined that since I only live 20 minutes away I would be better off purchasing a family membership for $69.95 so that I could bring my children back as often as I choose.  Using my family membership admission into the Garden of Lights is free from Sunday thru Wednesday, with half-priced admission from Thursday thru Saturday.  Not a bad deal at all for the average family.

The trail takes approximately an hour to go through on a slow night assuming that you do not spend forever at each exhibit looking at the lights.  If you move through the trail slower, it is likely to take 2 hours easily to complete the trail.  The trail is slippery in some places and I would highly recommend wearing tennis shoes or other highly comfortable shoes.  High heels are never recommended due to the blisters that are highly likely to ensue.

Because of the fact that much of the trail is underground and parts are close by water, it is also desired to wear thick clothing that you do not mind if it gets a bit damp.  While exploring the trail please remember your kids.  Their shoes also need to be warm, comfortable, and sturdy.  Highly bulky jackets should be avoided to avoid any problems fitting through Fat Man’s Squeeze as well.

This trail is wonderful to visit.  I prefer to go on the slower days so that it is easier to see the exhibits without huge issues.  We rescheduled out trip three times until the weather was a bit warmer and the rain had stopped.  I highly recommend this for helping get in the holiday spirit.  It is a gorgeous view for everyone to see from the top of the mountain.

Remember if you have kids bring them, half way through the trail is Santa ready and waiting to great the kids and take pictures.  Bring your camera and celebrate the gorgeous views and Christmas cheer.
