Almost any parent can agree, the correct snapshot of their kids can melt their heart even years later.  It still holds the same feelings as it did the very day the picture was taken and is still capable of drawing powerful feelings up inside a person.  It does not take a professional photographer for a family to have great pictures for their scrapbooks and photo albums.

I am going to break this down into a list of tips and suggestions to help you create the best pictures you can possibly get.  Remember, how you execute each of the tips is up to you, if you use these tips is up to you, but you are likely to discover great shots lurking in each page of your photo album. 

Tip #1.  Asleep on a shoulder is a great shot to have especially of a small child sleeping on the shoulder of someone that is near and dear to the child.  They tend to snuggle up close and have a very relaxed, peaceful look on their face. 

Tip #2.  Photographs do not always have to be in color.  A black and white photograph will take a great picture and add a whole new look to the scene.  It can make for a dramatic difference, as well as in very small children make a soft appearance, which is quite appealing.  It is also a bit more flattering than color photos for imperfections in the photo taking skills.

Tip #3.  Using natural light can be your best friend.  While artificial and supplemental lighting can be wonderful, for a soft and natural shot, there is almost nothing better than natural light.  It tends to be more flattering than the harsh conditions that are created from the use of artificial lights, plus kids especially tend to squint when using flash, which has an undesirable effect on their facial features.

Tip #4.  Stand directly above a small child, especially a baby who is unable to move.  This allows you to get a full shot of their body, as well as they are looking directly at you so you can see their eyes as well. 

Tip #5.  As your child grows developmentally, capture those images quickly.  We would all love to walk around with our kids in a constant camera all the time, but it just is not practical.  It is possible to get some great pictures, and all major milestones should be captured on photo so they can easily be remembered.

Tip #6.  Use a mirror to add extra depth as well as a pretty reflection to your pictures.  You will be able to see the front and back of your subject all in the same shot, which is not otherwise available.  This adds a wonderful touch to most pictures.

Tip #7.  Kids playing that they are working is often a great shot, which is quite memorable.  Get down to the same level as your child, and fill the frame with as much as you can, without cropping lots of the scene out.  This gives a great shot that will be treasured on the days when your child will not unload the dishes. 

Tip #8.  What is cuter than a great snapshot of your kids sitting at your desk trying their best to look important?  Few things, this is a great shot, and even better if you are able to get it, without having the child pose, if you happen to stumble upon it, the scene looks so much more natural and lifelike. 

Tip #9.  Flowers are a great way to accent kids, no matter how old or young most kids really enjoy flowers and they will look quite happy while seeing them and playing around them.  This makes it easy to get pictures of them looking extremely happy, and peaceful. 

Tip #10.  Multiple shots are often the best way to get some wonderfully spontaneous shots.  Just point the camera, aim, and start clicking away.  While some will be wasted, you will seize a few wonderful shots that you never would have attempted for.  This can make highly creative shots, which are wonderful and unique. 

As you can see there are several simple ways, in which you can capture wonderful snapshots without being a professional photographer.  Everyone is able to have great pictures of their kids and family to look back on fondly and remember the days when the kids were sweet and cuddled, instead of asking for money and car keys.
