While many people know what a vasectomy is, not everyone is aware of what a no scalpel vasectomy is, and what it means for the operation. I am going to take this time to explain what a no scalpel vasectomy is, and why it is different from a normal vasectomy. There are several advantages to a no scalpel vasectomy that are important to note, there are no incisions, no stitches, it is a much faster procedure, faster recovery time, less changes of complications, less discomfort and is equally as effective as the conventional vasectomy.
A no scalpel vasectomy is primarily different because of the way the doctor gets to the tubes. Aside from a different entry method, a different type of anesthesia is used that makes is less painful which is always a benefit when dealing with sensitive areas. In a conventional vasectomy, after the scrotum has been numbed, the doctor will typically make one possibly two small cuts and lift the tubes out of the skin and cut them as well as block the tubes to prevent sperm from traveling through. The doctor replaces the tubes and stitches the incisions closed.
In a no scalpel vasectomy, the doctor will feel for the tubes beneath the skin, and will hold them in place with a small clamp. The doctor will then take a special instrument and make a tiny puncture in the skin, which will also stretch ever so gently as possible the opening so the tubes can be reached. The tubes are then cut and blocked as in a conventional vasectomy. Once the tubes are cut and blocked, the instrument is removed and the area is cleaned. Because there was no actual, cuts made and the instrument is so small there is no need for stitches and very little bleeding. The opening will heal quickly with no scarring.
A no scalpel vasectomy is not perfect there are still some risks associated with it, including swelling, bruising, and some minor pain. However, all surgical procedures have risks associated that must be considered. If you experience any major complications such as infection around the incision, or bleeding under the skin then you should see your doctor to clear up any problems.
A no scalpel vasectomy is just as effective with a failure rate of less than 1% making it highly effective. Another major advantage is the fact that a no scalpel vasectomy takes approximately 10 minutes and can be done as an outpatient procedure at the doctors’ office or clinic where your doctor is located. Heavy physical labor should be avoided for at least 48 hours after the procedure.
It is possible to start having sex again as soon as it is comfortable, however it can take approximately 20 ejaculations before sterilization is achieved, and you should visit the doctor to ensure sterilization has happened before having sex without protection. |
